How do you teach cats to eat out of their own food bowls?

dgrissmer asked:

I have 1 kitten who is 3 months old and one adult cat who is 5 years old. Since both cats need different kinds of food (kitten food which has nutrients found in a mother’s milk, and adult formula that has nutrients designed for older cats), I have two separate food bowls. One for the kitten and one for the older cat. The older cat steals food from the kittens bowl which is making her overweight, and the younger one is stealing food from the older cat’s food bowl. I’ve tried mixing some kitten food in with the adult food, but that hasn’t worked. I’ve tried putting the bowls in differnt spots in the house which also hasn’t worked. What would you suggest? Thanks.

My boyfriend and I rescued a cat 2 years ago who had just previously had 7 kittens, he kept two and I kept one, so the cats are related. Recently we brougt my cat to his house to reunite them with his brothers, and he only met one and totally flipped out! It was a hissing and growling competition. I was wondering how do you go about introducing cats to each other (even though they are related) in a healthy way so that you dont loose the trust of your cats or end up with a constant cat quarral?

4 months ago I adopted 2 cats from the local animal rescue and the cat that has lived here for about 4 years has still not adjusted to these 2 new cats or the 2 addtional ones I adopted 2 months ago. The first cat took refuge downstairs in my rec-room on the coach and will only leave that spot to eat and use the litter box(usually) sometimes I find pee/poop on the coach. I have tried everything from keeping them separated to keeping them in the same room. When any of the 4 new cats(2 are still kittens) go near her she just screams bloody murder. Will she ever adjust or should I consider something else?

Moggy
ClaireK asked:

My moggy was always a very homely cat and didn’t seem that botherd when we got 2 new kittens 5 years ago. We have also added 2 children to the family (neither of which have ever tried to grab her or hurt her) but for some reason she has decided over the last year to move out and found a retired couple on the next street to stay with, she used to come back every few days but the length of time got longer and longer and now she hasn’t been home for about 2 months. I have tried bringing her home and not letting her out for a week or so at a time but she just keeps trying to escape. I want her to be happy but would prefer that to be with us, especially as the retired couple have made it quite clear that although they like her coming into their house etc they are not prepaired to take on any vets bills for inoculations or anything else. I’m at a loss as to what to do!

My cats keep urinating all over the carpet. How can I stop it?

I have tried everything. Their litter box is kept clean the majority of the time. There is a boy and girl cat who are both fixed and declawed. They have been here since kittens. Suddenly they start to urinate everywhere. I tried special catfood. They go all over the carpet, all over clothing, everywhere! I can’t put them outside. I’m about ready to give them to the pound. I’m an avid cat lover. I’ve never experienced anything like this with cats ever. These cats are well loved. These aren’t the first cats I’ve owned. I’ve box trained several cats in the past with no issues. I’m at the end of my rope. All suggestions welcome. Thanks!
In response to a couple of questions. The cats have been litter box trained all this time. I thought they had a urinary tract infection so that was the kind of special cat food I got them. I have thought of taking them to the vet, but if there is a better suggestion I’ll take it, taking two cats at once will cost a minimum of $300 and with three kids to care for by myself its something I’m trying to avoid.
Its amazing at the friendly responses I’ve received on my first post ever here. I rescued these cats over 5 years ago from the shelter when I was still married and had only two children. Since that time I’ve change my life completely. I now am single and have three children. (I didn’t think I’d have to defend myself here I though I’d be asking the questions). Until the divorce, I took them to the vet all the time and they had everything. I have almost no extra money to speak of these days and believe it or not, I have to put my childrens needs ahead of my cats who I do love. However, I can’t afford to be constantly washing all the clothes in the house, shampoo all the carpet, or pay someone to walk around and spray them with some special formula when I’m working. I was hoping someone else had experienced this but its clear that posting here was only to be insulted and put down for having cat issues. It won’t happen again.
