Deana asked: I have had my 14 wk old 3lb maltese for a week now. My maine coon is about 12 lbs & 8 months old. We got him at the Humane Society so Im sure he isnt a full breed maine coon & he is neutered. Anyways, we have tried & tried for hours to get them used to eachother. The puppy isnt scared of him & just wants to play of course. The cat pounces on him & attacks him. I let them do there thing until my puppy yelps then I pull him off the puppy. Sometimes it takes a while to even pull him off he is so ruff. Lastnight he turned around & attacked me. I know its kinda like interfearing but the puppy doesnt stand a chance. I feel really bad becuase I have to keep them seperated when Im not home or sleeping, & the cat used to sleep under the bed. Now I have to close my doors. I have a billion toys for him & even play with him as soon as i get home b4 I even go check on the pup. What else can I do? I cant keep living like this.. I feel so bad for the both of them

Will he ever just like him?

noplainjanie asked: I currently have a two year-old silky terrier/shih tzu male who weighs 10 lbs. He’s very sweet, but he does love to play rough sometimes (ex: he likes to roll/tumble with the cat). I would love to get him a canine “sibling”, and I’m drawn to the maltese as a breed, but I hear they are very, very fragile. Is it safe to introduce this breed into a small dog (and cat) household? (PS–my cat would likely ignore the new pup).

OscarsMum asked: Hi - I just brought home a new puppy (maltese) seven days ago. He was fine at first, playing and happy. Thursday night, I turned my back for one sec and he got into the cat food - just a nibble or two before I pulled him away.
It’s been two days now of vomiting and diarrhea, & he is not doing much more than sleeping.
I took him to the Vet. He didn’t have a fever. The Vet said he most likely has just an upset tummy and gave me some medicine for him.
That was yesterday. He hasn’t improved any. I am very worried and nervous.
Any suggestions? He is still drinking his water but he doesn’t seem interested in the prescription food the Vet gave me to give him.
Also, I forgot to mention this to the Vet, but at the same time my pup got sick, I came down with a slight case of the flu - I am not sure if this has anything to do with it but I am a new puppy owner and quite nervous at being a bad mommy!
Thanks all. I am mixing baby food (chicken and rice) with water and he likes drinking that. Still no solids though. A bit of nutrical this morning. Very lethargic still.
Sadly, he died.

sunrizer asked: I want a maltese so badly. So I thought I would rescue one, I don’t qualify because I have 2 cats and a lab. The lab is pretty calm and when we got the older cat, she was fine, when we adopted a 3lb kitten, she was so gentle. So now I have to look at a breeder, am I wrong in trying to bring in a small Maltese pup with my other animals? It would only be home for a max of 3.5 hrs alone and I would keep it separate. Any suggestions? Thank you.

sunrizer asked: I have 2 cats. Both adults. One is very laid back. The other is like a wild thing, running and pouncing on the other cat, very energetic. He is of normal size, a bit slender but not underweight. Would I have any worries about him hurting a small puppy like a maltese? he is neutered and front declawed, but could he still hurt the pup? Please no lectures on declawing, thanks.
although I did not want responses to the declawing, FYI, I adopted the cat, he was declawed, both were.
